We've passed this rest area several times on our way home from New Jersey back to Virginia Beach. This rest area is located about a mile past the state line with Maryland. There's quite a bit of history signs and other outdoor stuff right around the area here at the welcome center. There's a mile 1 marker for route 13 in VA, as well as the Blue Star Memorial Highway to name a few things around this welcome center.
Very clean and not crowded. We stopped during the day and it was nice to see an attendant present. I felt very safe.
If you're traveling south down Route 13 coming into Virginia, be sure to stop in at this welcome center. There's plenty of information about our state here, as well as lots of natural area to explore and unwind before getting back on the road again. You'll be glad you did.
When coming up to the building, the restrooms are to the right of the main entrance. The main welcome center is in the center of the building. I didn't get a good chance to look at the left side of the building on this visit due to the pouring down rain.
Nice rest stop/visitor center setting. Have candy vending machine. Best handicap access rest stop. Restroom cleanest I've seen.
The bathrooms are dated but they are clean and function properly. My only problem is that it closes at 2200 and there have been times where I had been driving by and needed a break but was unable to stop here due to the time of night.
Only the bathrooms were open but the women's room was really clean.
The main thing used here were the restrooms since it would still be about another two hours before we would make our way home to Virginia Beach. Normally we'd go into the welcome center, but it was just too rainy at the time. One thing noticed on this visit about the restrooms is that they have recently made some updates to the place, so the restrooms look new again. They do a great job at keeping the restrooms clean as well. I've been to some of these welcome centers in other states where there's a lot more to be desired.
